D86 Schools Make the Top 20 in Illinois on U.S. News List of Best High Schools
Hinsdale, IL – May 10, 2018 – Hinsdale Township High School District 86 proudly announced today that both of its high schools made the top 20 in Illinois on the U.S. News & World Report list of “Best High Schools.” Hinsdale Central earned the 13th spot and Hinsdale South earned the 20th spot out of the 195 high schools ranked statewide. The rankings by U.S. News reflect an examination of detailed data from thousands of high schools across the country. The annual list includes open enrollment public schools as well as those with selective enrollment, such as private, magnet and charter schools.
This year’s rankings reflect 2015-2016 academic year test performance for students from more than 28,813 high schools. The U.S. News rankings analyze the data based on four principles: performance better than the statistical average of state proficiency tests, proficiency rates for disadvantaged students, college-readiness and graduation rates.
“It is always an honor for our schools to be recognized for high academic achievement,” said Superintendent Dr. Bruce Law. “It is important to point out that 10 of the top 20 schools on this list get to pick their students. We do not pick the students we educate, and clearly we do not need to in order to be successful. District 86 high schools would be in the top 10 in Illinois if only the open enrollment schools were counted.”
Dr. Law continued, “I think it is especially fitting to say, since it is Teacher Appreciation Week, that the data underlying the rankings reflect the hard work of our teachers and the rigorous curriculum we have across the District. We are also grateful to our parents and the community for their support as valued partners in setting the standard for excellence.”
